VPRS 13699 General Files, Vehicle Standards and Engineering Division

This series consists of files from various filing systems or parts thereof, transferred by the Public Transport Corporation (VA 2984) as one series (PTC 714) that was titled 'Passenger Vehicle Files'. The arrangement of the various filing systems that formed this series, and their relationship to larger recordkeeping systems, is subject to further research.The Passenger Services Division of the Public Transport Corporation inherited records from the Chief Mechanical Engineer and Chief Electrical Engineer of Victorian Railways, and the Investigation and Research Division of its Rolling Stock Branch, as well as the Engineering Department of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and of the State Transport Authority (STA).The files related to the acquisition, design, construction, maintenance, running (including electrification) and fit-out of suburban passenger trains including the Tait, the Harris, the Hitachi and the Double Deck trains.The series comprises:- technical files containing plans, drawings, specifications, graphs, engineering tests and tender documentation.- contract correspondence with manufacturing companies, minutes of contract review meetings.- various project files
