GERMAN UNIVERSITY MEDICINE AND THE TRANSFER OF KNOWLEDGE IN CENTRAL ASIA: A MODERN HISTORIOGRAPHICAL INTERPRETATION OF THE LEGACY OF KHAYRINISO MAJIDKHONOVA

This article analyzes the influence of German university medicine on the processes of knowledge transfer to Central Asia in the early twentieth century through the example of Khayriniso Majidkhonova, employing the methodologies of modern historiography. The study evaluates her academic formation at German universities from the perspective of the intellectual transfer of European medical knowledge, university culture, and academic values into the national context. Drawing upon contemporary theoretical approaches, including history of knowledge, transnational history, academic mobility, gender history, and memory studies, the article reconceptualizes the significance of Khayriniso Majidkhonova’s legacy. Furthermore, her biography is examined as a historical model of academic interaction and knowledge exchange between German universities and Central Asia. The findings demonstrate that the medical knowledge acquired abroad was not transferred mechanically into the local context but was reinterpreted in accordance with local needs and adapted to a new institutional environment. The author argues that Khayriniso Majidkhonova’s career should be understood not merely as an individual biographical phenomenon but as an intellectual nexus linking European university culture, academic mobility, and the processes of national modernization. At the same time, her scholarly legacy is substantiated as an important historiographical case that illuminates the interconnections between the intellectual history of Central Asia, the history of medicine, and the international transfer of knowledge. By reassessing Khayriniso Majidkhonova’s legacy through the conceptual frameworks of modern historiography, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of university education, academic mobility, and intellectual transfer in Central Asia. It also establishes a significant conceptual foundation for future comprehensive research devoted to the study of knowledge exchange between European universities and Central Asia through contemporary theoretical approaches.
