The Pseudomonas phage ΦGP100 is a lytic bacteriophage of the Podoviridae family that was isolated from rhizosphere soil in Switzerland. This phage infects specifically plant-beneficial strains belonging to Pseudomonas protegens, among them the widely used type strain CHA0 that is well characterized for its potent antifungal and insecticidal activities. ΦGP100 affects the survival of P. protegens in natural soil and reduces its plant protective effect against the soilborne pathogen Pythium ultimum. In this announcement, we report the complete annotated genome sequence of phage ΦGP100 which will be useful in developing new models to better understand the molecular and ecological interactions between phages and plant rhizosphere-associated bacteria.
