ArtificialIntelligence(AI)referstothecapabilityofalgorithmsintegratedintosystemsandtoolstolearnfromdatasothattheycanperformautomatedtaskswithoutexplicitprogrammingofeverystepbyahuman.GenerativeAIisacategoryofAItechniquesinwhichalgorithmsaretrainedondatasetsthatcanbeusedtogeneratenewcontent,suchastext,imagesorvideo.ThisguidanceaddressesonetypeofgenerativeAI,largemulti-modalmodels(LMMs),whichcanacceptoneormoretypeofdatainputandgeneratediverseoutputsthatarenotlimitedtothetypeofdatafedintothealgorithm.IthasbeenpredictedthatLMMswillhavewideuseandapplicationinhealthcare,scientificresearch,publichealthanddrugdevelopment.LMMsarealsoknownas“general-purposefoundationmodels”,althoughitisnotyetprovenwhetherLMMscanaccomplishawiderangeoftasksandpurposes.
