Comparison of hematopoetic stem cells (HSC) and adipose tissue macrophages (ATM) in mouse adipose tissue. HSCs are progenitors for circulating leukocytes and recruited tissue macrophages. Males have increased numbers of ATMs and HSCs in response to high fat diet. In addition there are qualitative differencs with male ATMs releasing pro-inflamatory cytokines and factors impairing adipocyte function. M: male, F: female, ND: normal diet, HF: high fat diet. The sample design includes two cell types (ATM and HSC), two feeding regimes (ND and HF), and both sexes (M and F), giving 8 groups: ATM.M.ND, ATM.M.HF, ATM.F.ND, ATM.F.HF, HSC.M.ND, HSC.M.HF, HSC.F.ND, and HSC.F.HF. There are 4 replicates per group, giving 32 samples.
