The Master in Equity was responsible for the administration of the Supreme Court in Equity as well as holding various other positions. In 1883 under the Judicature Act the position of Prothonotary of the Supreme Court (VA 433) was established to relieve the Master in Equity of the administration of matters not related to Equity. The Prothonotary later assumed responsibility for the Equity functions of the Master in Equity.The series records receipts and disbursements related to suits before the Court,in the administration of deceased estates for which the Court was responsible or which were being held in trust; moneys held in trust and in the administration of trust accounts.Details relating to receipts (DR) are entered under the headings of: Date from: Particulars; Journal Folio; Cash Folio; Amount and Total. Details relating to disbursements (CR) are entered under the same headings. A notation states that a card system was instituted from September 1927.
