Colwellia sp. TT2012 Genome sequencing and assembly. Colwellia sp. TT2012

Colwellia sp. TT2012 is an obligately piezophilic psychrophile isolated from surficial sediments collected in the Tonga Trench at the depth of 9161m on Sept 2, 2012 from the R/V Roger Revelle. This sediment was used as the inoculum in Difco Marine medium 2216 under in situ pressure of 84MPa and 4 degree centigrade. TT2012 was eventually isolated as pure culture following three series of extinction to dilution transfers. The genome of such extremely piezophilic species from deep oceanic trenches will provide an opportunity for comparative genomics analyses to study deep-sea adaptations.
