Dataset for: Success from the Spot: Insights into Penalty Performance in Elite Women’s Football

This dataset supports the study <i>“Success from the Spot: Insights into Penalty Performance in Elite Women’s Football”</i> published in <b>Applied Sciences</b> (MDPI). It contains observational data on <b>240 penalty kicks</b> taken in elite women’s football competitions, specifically the Spanish <b>Liga F</b> and the English <b>Women’s Super League</b>, across the <b>2022/23 to 2024/25</b> seasons.The data were collected using an observational methodology and coded according to <b>12 criteria and 55 categories</b>, capturing contextual, situational, and technical variables such as match status, match period, shot placement, and goalkeeper action. Statistical analyses in the associated study were conducted using <b>chi-square goodness-of-fit and independence tests</b>.The repository includes a single file in <b>IBM SPSS Statistics (.sav) format</b>, enabling replication of the original analyses and facilitating further research on performance indicators and decision-making in elite women’s football.
