High-risk human papillomavirus (hr-HPV) genotypes 16 and 18 have been strongly associated with Barrett's dysplasia (BD) and oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC). In this study, we document 32 genomes in the HPV-associated Barrett's metaplasia-dysplasia-adenocarcinoma sequence. These oesophageal specimens were obtained from 32 Australian patients in Sydney, Australia, and the sequences have been submitted under accession numbers PQ529787-819. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the majority of these sequences show significant similarity to the Human papillomavirus type 16 strain, with one sequence more similar to the type 18 strain. These findings highlight the predominance of HPV-16 among the samples, aligning with global epidemiological trends and emphasizing the need for comprehensive screening and monitoring to address all high-risk HPV types effectively.
