Historic Events / Cullen, James -- Composition - Strange Animals / Cullen, James -- Composition - Strange Animals / Cox, Willie -- Composition - Strange Animals / Cabe, Vincent Mc -- This is one of the handmade bricks made by Mr Brady Monaghanoose over 100 years ago. -- This ancient stone Cross with Cap-like cover also of stone and cipher inscription which has been removed from fort at Carriga, Killinkere, is to be seen at present in the grounds of the Parochial House, Killinkere. -- This 'coping' measures 12 inches in diameter, is 4 inches deep, and is made from one piece of wood without any join which is roughly 1/2 inch thick. -- This little instrument was used in the same family for a few generations, they were basket and creel makers. It is 6 inches in length and is made from iron. -- This little ornamented roller is said to have been used for ornamenting prints and meskins of butter. -- The diameter of the handle of these little shears is 1 1/2 inches, the total length is 6 inches, and the blade is 1 3/4 inches in length. -- This 'thatching needle' is made of iron with a wooden handle. The handle is 5 1/2 inches in length, and the needle is 2 ft 6 inches. -- This 'thatching fork' is 15 inches long excluding the little handle, this used for pushing in the stopple. -- This 'thatching rake' is made of wood with iron pins, it is 20ii long and has a handle of 10ii in length. -- This 'rush candlestick' is about 39 inches in height, is made from iron apparently by a blacksmith. -- This metal 'grisset' was used for preparing the tallow in when making candles. -- This 'powder and shot bag' is sewn by hand, the bag itself is made from leather which is very old seemingly. -- This 'tally iron' was used in the days when the ladies wore frilled bonnets, a little heater was put into the top horizontal portion which is 3 1/2 inches long, and is 5 1/2 inches in height. -- This appears to be some kind of a dagger and is apparently steel. -- This 'sword' is partly eaten away with rust, at present it is not pointed but is worn away, the edge of blade is on the handle side, and seems to be of bronze. -- Above gridiron or rack on which the oaten bread was baked years ago is made of iron apparently by a blacksmith, the present generation cannot trace to when it was first used quite a good portion of it has mouldered away with rust. -- This 'handmill stone' is in possession of Mr Phil Carroll, Dromore, Bailieboro, some years ago he dug it out of the soil, but part of the handmill is missing. -- Above is a rough view of each side of the coin, which is silver and has a diameter of 10/12 of an inch. -- The above silver medal with gold centre is at present owned by Mrs H. Cox, Corlurgan, Bailieboro. -- Piggin
