The Macquarie University Australian political attitudes survey is a major study of Australian political behaviour and attitudes in 1979. The study assesses the respondent's attitudes toward political news in the mass media, likes and dislikes about political parties and party leaders, opinions about political issues, attitudes to Australia's federal system of government, interest in politics, political party identification and participation, voting history, electoral expectations, ideological location of parties, knowledge/perception of members of parliament, perceptions of government and politics, perceptions of personal and political efficacy, and trade union experience and attitudes. Background variables include age, sex, marital status, household characteristics, home ownership, residence, education and spouse's education, religion and spouse's/parents' religion, social class, occupational data and spouse's/father's occupational data, work experience, household income and organisational membership.
