Andreass Knopkens un viņa reformācijas tēzes

Riga citizens accepted the ‘pure Gospel’ of Reformation quite soon after Luther’s Wittenberg reformation. Andreas Knopken became the Riga reformer who at first was Erasmian humanist but together with Johannes Bugenhagen he changed his confession of faith. In the beginning of his reformer’s work Knopken offered lectures on the Paul’s Epistle of Romans, making a strong impression on the citizens of Riga. He presented 24 thesis from his lectures during the disputation that turned Riga in favor of the reformation. The main principle was the saving righteousness of Christ that is not achieved by sinners themselves, but given as a God’s gift and received by faith. Knopken’s theses and commentary provides both positive evangelical confession of faith, and negative rebuttal of false doctrine. Knopken’s work is an essential witness of early reformational theology, which reveals its impact on the late medieval people suffering under the righteousness of law.
