To clarify the mite-plant interaction, we identified the salivary protein of spider mites during feeding. We collected spider mite infested tobacco leaves, rinsed the leaf surfaces, and subsequently analyzed the proteins present in the infested or uninfested leaves using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). A total of 67 spider mite proteins were identified, of which 19 with 2 or more unique peptides (high reliability of sequencing) were detected. Among them, 12 proteins were found to contain signal peptides, and lack transmembrane domains
