NRS-19048 | Bills of sale – numerical index [Land Titles Office]

This series is the numerical index for Bills of sale from the Land Titles Office [Registrar General].The Bills of Sale Act 1898 (Act No.10, 1898), provided for the registration of instruments relating to mortgage interests over goods and personal chattels within the General register of deeds. Manual indexes were created as finding aids to assist access to the records.The numerical indexes are bound. The numerical range and date range are printed on the spine of each volume. The indexes are arranged numerically (running numerical number for bills of sale and a year suffix (e.g. 56387/79). The following template headings are contained within the volume: the bill of sale number, nature of document, lodged, indexed, index examined, filed and name.With the introduction of the Automated Deeds Indexing Service (ADIS) in 1992, an electronic index to the Bills of sale was created and the paper indexes were no longer maintained. The series ceased to be created in 2005 when the Liens on Crops and Wool and Stock Mortgages Act 1898 (Act No.7, 1898) and Bills of Sale Act 1898 were repealed as part of the Security Interests in Goods Act 2005 (Act No.59, 2005).
