Foxleigh Coal Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Middlemount South Pty Ltd (MMS), is the holder of Mineral Development Licence 3028 (MDL 3028). MDL 3028 covers an area of 2898 Ha lying immediately to the north west of MMS’s Foxleigh Mine and located approximately 3 kilometres south of Middlemount and approximately 250 kilometres south west of Mackay, within the Central Bowen Basin.
Foxleigh Coal applied for the MDL over the Roper Creek project EPC’s 855 & 1669 in September 2017. MDL 3028 was granted on the 24th July 2018 and commenced on the 1st August 2018.
The primary objective within MDL 3028 is to further define the deposit, increase the resource classification to Measured and progress the tenure to open-cut production as a northern extension of the Foxleigh Mine. Currently the Roper Creek deposit has been defined as containing a 48.3 Mt JORC Coal Resource consisting of 4.9 Mt Inferred and 43.4 Mt Indicated as at the 31st March 2018. The coal seams that constitute this are the Roper, Middlemount and Tralee seams of the Permian Rangal Coal Measures.
During this reporting period MMS conducted an infill drilling program consisting of nine (9) chip holes. Further works were halted due to the logistical issues and market downturn created from the COVID-19 pandemic. Roper Creek MDL 3028 & EPC 855 currently contain a Total JORC Resource of 48.3 Mt of coal, which consists of 4.9 Mt Inferred and 43.4 Mt Indicated.
Within the upcoming term MMS plans to conduct an infill drilling program that may also incorporate further drilling of core and geotechnical holes. Once completed all new data will be utilised to update the model and resource estimate. This will provide structural control and further resource definition. Dependent on the results and progression of the program feasibility studies may then commence. It must be noted that these works are dependent of the COVID-19 pandemic situation and may be limited, altered or postponed accordingly.
