Using population genomics approaches, we try to elucidate the genomic architecture of rapid parallel adaptation to freshwater in N. brevirostris by comparing four freshwater-resident populations with their ancestral anadromous population in the Yangtze River system. First, the genetic diversity, population structure and demographic history were determined. Second, the source of adaptive genetic variation and the mechanisms driving freshwater adaptation have been elucidated. In particular, we examined the extent to which phenotypic parallel adaptations are reflected at the genomic level.
