MetaPDOcheese 1: 16S rRNA gene-based metabarcoding analysis of the French PDO cheeses and milks

The dataset represents a national-scale metagenetic survey composed of 2684 samples (n = 1148 rind cheese, n = 1148 core cheese and n = 388 milk samples) encompassing the 44 PDO cheeses present across France and belonging to 7 different cheese making technologies (hard cooked cheese, soft washed rind, uncooked pressed cheese/semihard cheese, lactic washed rind, lactic bloomy rind, internal blue mold and soft bloomy rind). The total bacterial DNA was sequenced using Illumina MiSeq/HiSeq2500 after amplifying of V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene (2x250 bp).
