Nicaragua: gender gap index 2020, by area

In 2020, Nicaragua scored higher in the gender gap index than any other Latin American country with an overall score of 0.8. The Central American country received 0.67 points in the area of economic participation and opportunity, which shows a gender gap of approximately 33 percent (women are 33 percent less likely to have the same economic opportunities as men). According to this study, Nicaragua ranks in fifth place in the global gender gap index, after Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden. Nonetheless, Nicaragua shows one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the region and a track record of human rights violations.
