This series includes advice, minutes and correspondence of the Disability Council of NSW, the official advisory body to the State Government on disability matters. The series includes documents relating to the operations of the Disability Council, including its structure, functions and operation, selection of Council members, minutes of meetings, Action Packages (these being the actions and correspondence of Disability Council meetings), strategic plans, Disability Council employment policy, and Ministerial briefings and correspondence. There is also correspondence relating to the Council’s policies and position on various issues, such as education and transport. It also includes submissions, evidence and responses provided to various Government committees, particularly in relation to education, and minutes and correspondence of various Disability Council committees and sub-committees. These include committees covering sexual assault, special education, inclusive education, research, human rights and freedom from abuse, and employment. There also documents pertaining to evidence given to the Standing Committee on Social Issues relating to amendments to the Guardianship (Amendments) Bill, and submissions and responses to various Parliamentary inquiries, including the Staysafe Inquiry on road safety, and the home and community care programme. Other files in the series include advice given by the Disability Council to Government ministers, departments and bodies, such as the Department of Vocational Education and Training, Disability Advisory Council of Australia, Olympic Coordination Authority (regarding access provisions for the Sydney Olympics), Roads and Traffic Authority, and to New South Wales Health regarding mental health services. There are also reviews made by the Council on various regulations and legislation, including the Disability Services Act 1993 (Act No.3, 1993), the Building Code of Australia, the Commonwealth Disability Services programme, the Anti-Discrimination Act, plus reviews of the functions of the Council itself and its Strategic Plans.The files were managed using the Computer Aided Records Management System (CARMS).
