Micromonospora sp. ATCC 39149.Micromonospora sp. ATCC 39149, also known as Micromonospora carbonacea var. africana, was isolated from soil in Kenya. This organism produces a number of antibiotic compounds, such as chloramphenicol, a glycosylated thiostrepton, and evernimicin. Evernimicin belongs to the orthosomycin family of antibiotics which have broad spectrum activity against gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-resistant staphylococci and penicillin-resistant streptococci. The geonome sequence of this organism will provide information on the production and regulation of this and other antibiotic compounds.
