St. Mary's Church, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire: Archaeological Evaluation 2009

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Birmingham Archaeology within the churchyard of St Mary's Church, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire in September 2009. The fieldwork was commissioned by the Parochial Church Council, with advice from Hook Mason Architects. The evaluation was based on an earlier evaluation of the site, and took place after a revised development plan for the construction of a new Church Hall was submitted to Herefordshire Council. A total of three trenches were dug in 1991, and two further trenches were dug in 2009. The trenches uncovered a number of graves, likely to relate to an earlier post-medieval layout of the graveyard, possible medieval burials and a small collection of Roman pottery.
