Continuous variables compared using Mann-Whitney test, values reported as median and Interquartile Range (IQR). Malaria subjects had significantly higher levels of heme, HO-1 and CXCL10 compared with non-malaria regardless of the age group.*Among the 141 non-malaria subjects 89% (125/141) are ≤16 years of age and 11% (16/141) are >16 years of age.†Among the 270 malaria subjects 83% (223/270) are ≤16 years of age and 17% (47/270) are >16 years of age.Plasma Heme, Heme-Oxyenase-1 and CXCL10 quantification.
