This is a collection of materials at the AFI Research Collection (AFIRC) that relate to the genre of film commonly known as Westerns. Westerns were once a popular staple of films produced by the USA, whose influence was felt in many other countries (for example in Italy, where Westerns made there are now called Spaghetti Westerns). Though these films are not as common in the USA as they once were, the best examples of the genre are seen as important film making landmarks that filmmakers are influenced by today (even within other genres). The AFIRC holds over 70 items relating directly to Westerns. These include books, journal articles, and clippings files.
