The Department of Immigration, Local Government and Ethnic Affairs initiated this survey in an attempt to remove unnecessary barriers to the entry of visitors to Australia, and to achieve an efficient service when issuing visas. The objectives of the study were to identify: visitor perceptions and ratings of the different aspects of service that visitors experience when applying for a visa; aspects of the service which contribute to service quality; those service elements where improvement will increase visitor satisfaction. Topics covered include: length of stay in Australia, and reasons for visiting; method of obtaining visa, and levels of satisfaction with service from immigration staff while obtaining visa; other contact with visa staff; and opinions on the way service could be improved. Information was also collected on respondents' age, sex and nationality.
