Intrinsic capacity and stroke: a multiple cohort study

This large-scale cohort study pooled data from four longitudinal studies: the Health and Retirement Study (HRS); the English Longitudinal Study of Aging (ELSA); the Survey of Health, Aging, and Retirement in Europe (SHARE); and the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The HRS utilised a multistage probability design based on the US population. The SHARE covered 29 countries using probability sampling. The ELSA is an annual cross-sectional survey designed for the English population. The CHARLS employed a multistage probability design across China. In total, 234,340 participants, including their spouses, were surveyed biennially between 1992 and 2020.
