资源简介:
This report presents the results of test excavations at the Fairfax South site (12 Mo 346) at Monroe Reservoir, Monroe County, Indiana. The Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology, Indiana University, in contract with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Reservoirs, undertook investigations at the site in order to evaluate the archaeological significance of the site and its eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places. Fieldwork consisted of the hand excavation of trenches to assess the integrity of archaeological deposits and was conducted under supervision of the author from May 21 to June 5, 1987. Dr. Patrick J. Munson was the Principal Investigator.
This report describes the setting of the project area, previous archaeological investigations, the fieldwork methods utilized in test excavations, findings, and recommendations. Test excavations showed that the Fairfax South site contained a moderate amount of lithic debitage and a few Archaic Period artifacts, but cultural materials appeared to be confined to the surface and plowzone. Results of the investigations indicate that site 12 Mo 346 lacks sufficient integrity of preservation to merit nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
