A NEW AGN PHENOMENON - HIGH MASS X-RAY OUTFLOWS

We have recently discovered Xray outflows carrying solarmasses of material at1015% the speed of light in two radioquiet, high accretionrate AGN. In theseobjects a substantial fraction of the black hole gravitational energy isextracted in the form of bulk outflow kinetic energy. We propose to observethree high accretion rate AGN in order to confirm the association of massiveoutflows with high accretion rates and hence provide new insights into theaccretion process close to a massive black hole. If common, we suggest Xrayoutflows may provide a key link between radioquiet and radioloud objects andbetween AGN and stellarmass black hole systems. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
