The study aims to compare faecal microbiota of endemic and captive giant tortoises (Aldabrachelys gigantea). Faecal samples were retrieved from the Aldabra Atoll, Seychelles (9 individuals, endemic population) and Tierpark Hagenbeck, Hamburg, Germany (5 individuals, captive population). Amplicon and metagenome sequencing are utilized to profile and characterize the faecal samples. The samples are studied with regard to differences in sex, location and food source.
