The Manly Hospital Cohort Study was undertaken to examine functional status over time in an elderly population with an acute hospital admision, and to determine the relationship between changes in functioning and documented evidence of after hospital services planning. Variables include various indices of functional status - physical, role physical, bodily pain, general health perception, vitality, social functioning, role emotional and mental health; admission DRG; recommendation and acceptance of continuity of care; types of care received; types and cost of pre-existing services used; and use of and money spent on operations and visits to GPs, specialists, pathologists, and radiologists. Background variables include age, gender and living arrangements.
