Rinvoq, Dupixent, and Skyrizi were the top three most advertised drugs on U.S. TV in 2022 based on ad spend. Rinvox led the pack with more than 315.8 million U.S. dollars in TV ad expenditures that year, while Dupixent and Skyrizi spent 305.9 and 174.4 million, respectively. Pharmaceutical marketing and advertising As well as being advertised on TV, the pharmaceutical sector is actively promoted in medical and surgical journals. Advertising revenues generated via this medium reach well over 300 million U.S. dollars each year. By far, the largest amounts are devoted to advertising of antineoplastic agents – medicines used in cancer treatment. Bronchial steroids, antivirals, monoclonal antibodies and oral anticoagulants close the list of most advertised drug classes in health journals. On average, pharma companies allocated some nine million U.S. dollars to their marketing budgets in 2021, representing a growth of roughly 2.2 percent over the preceding year. Compared to other types of health care companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers had the largest marketing budgets and the majority of pharma executives also indicated that their marketing allowances were set to increase.
