This series comprises Coal Production Statistics recorded by the Joint Coal Board on all aspects of coal production in the Commonwealth of Australia. The statistics were recorded fortnightly.There were four books of statistics taken each year per colliery from 1948 until 1983, when the statistics were collated into two books per year. Each book recorded different sets of statistics. Book 1 recorded output (tonnes), miners coal, colliery consumption, delivered as saleable coal and stocks at end of fortnight. Book 2 recorded no. of person's employed, no. of manshifts lost and no. of manshifts possible. Book 3 recorded manshifts lost due to industrial disputes, mechanical breakdowns weather etc, accidents to men and transport, lack of trucks/or trade. Book 4 recorded manshifts lost due to other causes, men on compensation, men on sick leave and men absent other causes.From 1983 Book 1 recorded production, adjustments, miner's coal and colliery consumption, delivered, stocks at end of fortnight, and no. of person's employed. Book 2 recorded ordinary manshifts, overtime manshifts, total manshifts worked, no of manshifts possible, no. of person's employed, no. of manshifts worked and no. of manshifts possible. Less data is recorded on states other than NSW from 1983. The Coal Production Statistics are organised into mining districts. The series is arranged chronologically.
