The number of tablets sold to private consumers in Germany peaked in 2014 at 6.64 million devices. A few years later in 2020, it had dropped to just over 4.5 million. The same decreasing trend is obviously visible when looking at tablet sales revenue. Apple tablet market leaderThe average price for a tablet in Germany also fluctuated, increasing again after 2015 to 337 euros in 2019. A far cry from the 603 euros recorded in 2010, but still substantial enough to get consumers thinking twice, especially with the amount of functions a smartphone can still fulfill or the variety of small, easy to pack laptops available on the market. While tablet sales might remain uncertain, the number of people using electronic devices, tablets included, for reading, is increasing. Globally, Apple’s smartphones and tablets are being used the most, followed by Samsung. In fact, specifically on the tablet market, Apple is in the lead. Low batteryDespite some encouraging trends mentioned above and tech giants still aiming to establish themselves by continuing to produce tablets alongside other mobile devices, experts also say that the tablet boom may be over. Sales consistently continue to drop, as is clear from this statistic, just to name one example from Germany, and smartphones have also become larger to cater to a wider spectrum of consumer demands.
