Autistic Women, Work, and the Work of Identity

There is increasing interest amongst organisations in making their work environments more inclusive and supportive of neurodiverse employees. At the same time, much autism research has historically prioritised the perspectives and experiences of male autistics. This study focuses on the workplace experiences of female autistics, and explores their negotiation of identities at work. 40 interviews were undertaken and offered first-hand insights into how participants navigated the challenges and stigmas of being both female and autistic at work, and how workplace accommodations brought new tensions and feelings of inclusion.
