Gene database of Staphylococcus aureus NCTC 8325

<i>Staphylococcus aureus</i> is a round, Gram-positive bacterium that inhabits the skin and upper respiratory tract of human body. A commensal in most cases, but which can also become an opportunistic pathogen, <i>S. aureus</i> is an important clinical bacterium particularly in cases of strains resistant to methicillin (also known as methicillin resistant <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i>, MRSA). This work sought to provide a gene database of all genes in the sequenced genome of <i>S. aureus</i> NCTC 8325 (Genbank accession number: NCBI Reference Sequence: NC_007795.1). Using an in-house MATLAB algorithm, the Genbank genome file was parsed to reveal gene name, gene function and gene sequence of all genes in the genome of this Gram-positive bacterium. Information obtained should be useful for various microbiology and clinical research applications seeking, for example, to better understand the mechanisms underpinning the virulence of <i>S. aureus</i> under different clinical settings. <br><br>
