The estimate of additive genetic variance VA, the genetic correlation between the sexes and their standard errors are derived from an animal model, correcting for differences in the ‘cohorts’ (year of first breeding) and study plots. Test of the significance of estimates are based on a Likelihood Ratio Test (LRT) comparison of the likelihood of the full model with a model where the genetic correlation is specified, based on (a) setting the genetic covariance to zero (LRT r = 0), and setting the intersexual genetic correlation to+1 (LRT r = 1). The coefficient of additive genetic variation is indicated as . aLRT r = 0: χ21 = 2.3, P = 0.13
