Genypterus chilensis Transcriptome. Genypterus chilensis

The red cusk-eel (Genypterus chilensis) is an abundant fish species distributed along the coasts of the Southeastern Pacific Ocean, which has been considered one of the endemic species of greatest farming potential in Chile. Despite his great qualities, this species requires longer times to reach commercial size as a consequence of its slow growth rates limiting the establishment of production centers. At present, there are no reported gene sequences of G. chilensis available in public databases that allow us to establish a program of growth monitoring based on molecular markers. In order to identify genes involved in molecular endocrinology aspect of red cusk-eel growth, we performed liver and muscle transcriptome sequencing with Illumina HiSeqTM 2000.
