The German Internet Panel (GIP) is an infrastructure project. The GIP serves to collect data about individual attitudes and preferences which are relevant for political and economic decision-making processes. Topics: Verification of the respondent´s personal details stored in the database, such as first name, surname, sex, year of birth, mobile phone number and landline number (details correct or incorrect) and, if necessary, correction of previous details or addition of mobile phone number and landline number if not available in the database; German citizenship; marital status; number of household members (household size); age (grouped) and sex of other household members and relationship of the respondent to these persons; federal state of the main residence; highest general school leaving certificate; highest vocational training or (technical) university degree). Occupational situation: employment status or (professional) activities; main activity; previous employment status (full-time or part-time); occupational status of paid activity (employed, self-employed or helping family member); short-time work or leave with/without continued pay of employed persons; amount of short-time work of employed persons; amount of work in self-employment (more, about the same or less than before the start of the Corona pandemic, not working at all in my self-employment at the moment); place of work of the main activity (exclusively on site at the employer´s or client´s premises, predominantly on site at the employer´s premises, about equally on site at the employer´s premises and in the home office, predominantly in the home office, occasionally at the employer´s or client´s premises, exclusively in the home office); time limit employment contract; employment in the public sector; occupational status of the last paid employment; employment contract of indefinite or fixed duration of the last employment relationship; employment in the public sector in the last employment relationship; economic sector of the (last) occupational activity. Financial situation: personal income (grouped); number of income contributing persones in the household; respondent contributes to household income; net household income (grouped). Religious denomination; religiousness; frequency of computer use besides the study ´Gesellschaft im Wandel´; frequency of use of Internet, Word Wide Web and e-mail for private purposes; frequency of daily Internet use; satisfaction with selected areas of life (family life, leisure time, financial situation, work); social activities: active, passive resp. no membership in selected organisations and associations (sports, music or cultural club, other hobby association, human rights, environmental or animal protection association, charity or aid organisation, religious or church organisation, youth, parents or senior citizens´ association, citizens´ initiative, professional association, trade union, political party); left-right selfplacement; Left-right placement of the parties CDU/CSU, SPD, FDP, Bündnis90/ Die Grünen, Die Linke and AfD); party affiliation and party identification; voting behaviour in the last federal election (second vote); confirmed infection with the Corona virus by a doctor, a hospital or by the public health department; unconfirmed infection with the Corona virus; Corona warning app installed on smartphone; frequency of use of the Corona warning app. Demography: sex; age (year of birth, categorised); highest educational degree; highest professional qualification; marital status; household size; employment status; German citizenship; frequency of private internet use; federal state. Additionally coded were: Respondent ID; household ID, GIP; person ID (within household); year of recruitment (2012, 2014, 2018); interview date; current online status; household income including single households. Questionnaire evaluation (interesting, varied, relevant, long, difficult, too personal); overall assessment of the survey; respondent made further comments on the questionnaire.
