16S rRNA amplicon sequencing of sediment microbiomes in the Three Gorges Reservoir, China (November 2024)

The Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) is the largest water conservancy project in China, and its sediment serves as a crucial reservoir of microorganisms that play vital roles in biogeochemical cycles (e.g., carbon, nitrogen cycling) and maintain the stability of the reservoir ecosystem. To clarify the community structure, diversity characteristics, and potential ecological functions of sediment microbiomes in the TGR, sediment samples were collected from the TGR in November 2024. Here, we performed 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing on these sediment samples using high-throughput sequencing technology. The sequencing data obtained in this study will provide fundamental information for analyzing the composition and distribution patterns of sediment microbial communities, exploring the associations between microbial communities and environmental factors (e.g., sediment physicochemical properties), and further investigating the ecological functions of microorganisms in the TGR sediment ecosystem.
