The main objective of the project was to isolate nitrate-reducing microorganisms capable of doing the nitrate dependent Fe oxidation (NDFO), also called nitrate-reducing Fe-oxidizing (NRFeOx) microorganisms, from samples from the deep subsurface of the Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB).
