Environmental description of 110 km of access trails to the PPBio plots in the BR-319.

Remote sensing tools have been widely applied to describe environments in Amazonia. Validation of these data using field data is frequently hampered by the difficult to access and collect data in remote areas of forest. The PPBio plots along the BR-319 (North-South road cutting the Purus-Madeira Interfluve) contain ~ 110 km of access trails under dense canopy coverage. An environmental description of these trails was done between August of 2010 and February of 2011. This description was based on a classification of hydrological characteristics of environments and was used to validate hydrologic-topographic models developed for the area between the Rivers Purus and Madeira.
