NRS-1840 | Record of warders' offences and leave of absence

These volumes give similar information to that found in Record of warders' offences (NRS-1839). These volumes record brief details of misconduct and neglect of duty on the part of warders employed in New South Wales gaols. The following information is given: name, date of appointment in public service and to present office, year of birth, height (feet and inches), eyes, hair, complexion, country, single or married, calling, religion and remarks. They include the date, offence, by whom reported, by whom evidence given, decision, by whom, and remarks. Notes on transfers to other gaols, promotion, demotions, resignations etc. are also given for each warder.They also include (for each officer) a list of leave taken (noting date and type of leave).Both male and female warders are included, with dates of appointment ranging from 1858 to 1924. There are indexes in the front of each volume but the entries themselves are not in strict chronological order.
