This project entails an investigation of an ancient hydrothermal mound on what was previously the lake bottom of Walker Lake in Hawthorne, Nevada. The mound has been exposed by excavation of the site to obtain material to create a bed for railroad construction. The site served as a remote, analogue Mars environment in 2020 for a Mars 2020 Science Team training exercise (ROASTT). In 2023, a followup site visit was conducted to collect more samples and determine in greater detail the structure of the mound.
