Lithological control on regolith thickness across the Southern Granulite Terrain: an open multi-district compilation of CGWB NAQUIM exploratory-well lithologs

An open, reproducible research compendium compiling public exploratory-well lithologs and derived layers to test whether lithology controls regolith thickness (weathered-zone and depth-to-bedrock) across the Southern Granulite Terrain of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, South India. The dataset consolidates 1,657 exploratory wells harvested from Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) NAQUIM aquifer-mapping reports across 36 districts, harmonised to a 23-field master schema with per-well lithology classification, coordinate and quality-control flags, and full source provenance (report citation, page, and PDF SHA-256). Accompanying Python code performs the PDF extraction, lithology harmonisation, spatial quality control and consolidation. Spatial data use WGS 84 (EPSG:4326); planar analysis uses UTM zones 43N and 44N. Data are released under CC-BY 4.0 and code under the MIT Licence.
