Nitrosopumilus maritimus SCM1 is the only strain of ammonia-oxidizing archaea from the sea. The individual cells of this bacterium are very small and the culture solution is almost as clear as tap water under conventional conditions for 15 days, and the physiological and biochemical properties are specific, making it difficult to study.
