BAT007 - Batta - Narrative: The time I met a mermaid

This dataset contains a naturalistic text in Batta, in which Septinus Mde (born 1952), a native speaker of Batta, recounts a time he met a mermaid. As well as the audio file (wav), an Elan file (eaf) and a text file (txt) are also provided, which include a translation of the narrative into Papuan Malay. The session was recorded on 11 December 2019, in Yenenas village (Batanta island, Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua province, Indonesia). This dataset relates to the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Synchronic and diachronic investigations in Raja Ampat-South Halmahera, a little-known subbranch of Austronesian' (PF19\100004); additional fieldwork funds were provided by a Moray Endowment Grant from the University of Edinburgh.
