This study utilizes bibliometric analysis to explore the integration of environmental and sustainability films in educational contexts through 142 publications sourced from the Scopus database. Using complementary analytical tools Bibliometrix and VOSviewer, we trace the field's development from 1980 to 2024, identifying three distinct phases: emergence (1980-2005), growth (2005-2015), and acceleration (2015-2022). Our findings reveal significant geographical disparities in research production, with Anglo-American countries dominating the discourse despite meaningful contributions from Brazil and China. Network visualizations uncover limited collaborative structures among researchers and institutions, while conceptual mapping demonstrates insufficient integration between film theory and environmental education frameworks. Citation analysis highlights the concentrated influence of specific works, particularly those connecting environmental and health narratives. Based on these findings, we propose four strategic pathways to enhance the educational application of environmental films: diversifying epistemic perspectives to include marginalized voices, strengthening theoretical connections between film studies and environmental pedagogy, leveraging emerging digital media technologies, and developing robust evaluation methodologies. This comprehensive analysis provides valuable guidance for researchers, educators, and filmmakers seeking to improve the pedagogical effectiveness of environmental and sustainability films across educational settings.
