Complete genome sequencing and annotation of Ovine herpesvirus 1, isolate JA548

Ovine herpesvirus 1 (OvHV-1) was first described in 1967 in sheep affected with ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma (jaagsiekte). An aetiological role in OPA was subsequently ruled out, and OvHV-1 remains relatively uncharacterised. In this study, the complete genome sequence of the JA548 isolate of OvHV-1 was determined and annotated. This work confirms previous studies that suggested OvHV-1 is a gammaherpesvirus, closely related to Macaviruses.
