LRO Diviner Emission Phase Function Gridded Dataset

This dataset is a subset of the Diviner Emission Phase Function observations (the full dataset is archived at the NASA Planetary Data Systems Geosciences Node: https://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/lro/urn-nasa-pds-lro_diviner_derived2/data_derived_epf/). This dataset contains 4 Diviner EPF Campaign targets of typical lunar terrain; Equatorial Highlands (center latitude = 0.36°, center longitude = 141.39°), High Latitude Highlands (49.55°, -109.55°), Equatorial Mare (-0.6°, -54.0°) and High Latitude Mare (52.97°, -71.52°). Equatorial and High Latitude targets for highlands and mare are combined in the datafiles 'Highlands_XXX.mat' and 'Mare_XXX.mat' and separate files for Equatorial and High Latitude Highlands targets are also included. Each filename denotes the target or combined targets and the Diviner channel with 'cX' denoting bolometric temperatures (equivalent black body temperature when channels 3-9 are combined). Targeted EPF data are combined with all non-EPF data collected within 1.5° × 1.5° boxes centered on each site. Incidence, emission, and azimuth angles were determined with respect to topography by projecting the data onto the 128 pixel-per-degree SLDEM 2015 topographic map (Barker et al., 2016). Direct binning of EPF data in emission and azimuth angle space is complicated by the very small azimuthal increments near zero emission. Instead, for convenience, the data are represented in terms of Cartesian components: θ_p=ecosa and θ_c=esina where θ_p and θ_c are the components of emission and azimuth angle in the principal-plane and cross-plane directions, respectively. Data were gridded in 2˚ incidence angle and 1˚ principal- and cross- plane azimuth angle increments. Each file contains a structure with the following fields: N: Number of data points within each bin. deltaazi: Azimuthal angle of Diviner with respect to the Sun (degrees). detemis: Emission angle of Diviner (degrees). phase: Phase angle of Diviner with respect to the Sun (degrees). suninc: Solar incidence angle (degrees). tb25: 25th percentile brightness temperature for each emission, azimuth and incidence angle (K). tb50: Median brightness temperature for each emission, azimuth and incidence angle (K). tb75: 75th percentile brightness temperature for each emission, azimuth and incidence angle (K). tbMean: Averaged brightness temperature for each emission, azimuth and incidence angle (K). tbStd: Standard deviation of brightness temperatures for each emission, azimuth and incidence angle (K). x: Cartesian x components of the emission and azimuth angle grid (principal plane). y: Cartesian x components of the emission and azimuth angle grid (cross plane).
