The meteorology behind coral bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef

This thesis investigates the weather patterns over the Great Barrier Reef and their relationship with ocean heating and thermal coral bleaching events, as well as periods of ocean cooling. It identifies the importance of the trade winds in moderating ocean temperatures and explores why the trade wind collapse into the calm and clear conditions known as the doldrums that cause sudden ocean heating.
