MRSA genomic epidemiology in Saudi Arabia

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) impacts hospitals, community, nursing homes and life stock. It causes infections such as superficial skin infections to live threatening bacteremia. A challenging pathogen due to acquisition of drug resistance genes limiting treatment options. Monitoring the dissemination; in particular the resistome, clonal complex and virulence of MRSA is crucial for public health policy. Currently, data from Saudi Arabia on genomics level is limited, hence an effort to understand the genomic landscape and clonal distribution across the kingdom is important. Here we report sequencing MRSA from multiple location across the kingdom from multiple hospitals.
